At age 30, what is left and next for Roger Federer?

Roger Federer has won a record 16 Grand Slam singles titles and, in many people’s minds, has already earned the distinction of being the greatest men’s tennis player of all-time.

The great Swiss has won 787 matches in his career to just 185 losses with an astounding 225-33 record in Grand Slams. He has been ranked No. 1 in the world for 285 weeks, just one week shy of tying Pete Sampras’ all-time record, and owns one of the most impressive streaks in tennis history by reaching a record 23 straight Grand Slam semifinals.

He has his wife, Mirka, and two-year-old twins, Charlene and Myla, and has won over $63 million just from tennis, not counting sponsorships - more money than he will ever need in his lifetime - and can be seen in multiple television commercials for various products.

Having turned 30 last month, the question is, how much is possibly left to motivate the great Federer? Or for that matter, what is left for him to achieve?

But the 30-year-old is still the No. 3 player in the world and says he has no plans to stop playing any time in the foreseeable future. He might have lost a few steps from his prime, and a few opponents, like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, have caught up and perhaps even passed his level, but Federer still loves to compete, wants to keep winning and is still playing because he loves the game.

To him, age is just a number.

“I mean, hasn't changed anything. I'm still as professional. I'm still as hungry. Everything's still completely normal,” Federer said when asked about how turning 30 affected his outlook. “It's just a number that's changed. So, no, I'm ready to go.

“I’d rather be 30 than 20,” he said in an interview with ESPN after winning his second-round match at the 2011 US Open over Dudi Sela.

In fact, Federer is more competitive in Grand Slams at 30 than he was at 20. The year he turned 20 in 2001, he did not advance past a Grand Slam quarterfinal and, in 2002, had two first-round Grand Slam exits.

However, since his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2003 just before he turned 22, Federer has won at least one Grand Slam every year since, a streak that is in jeopardy as he entered Flushing Meadows, where he has won five times, without a major title this year. His last was the 2010 Australian Open.

This year, he lost to Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals, to Nadal in the French Open final and suffered a shocking five-set loss to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. It did, however, extend his streak of reaching 29 straight Grand Slam quarterfinals.

Coming into the 2011 US Open, Federer is not the favorite or maybe one of the top two favorites for the first time in many years, with Djokovic the Australian Open and Wimbledon champion having lost just two matches this year the favorite and in Federer’s section of the draw. The two could meet in the semifinals for the fourth year in a row. Last year, Federer wasted several match points in a five-set loss to the Serbian.

Djokovic, however, is not viewing a meeting with Federer at the US Open, or anywhere, any more lightly than he had before and does not doubt Federer’s desire to keep winning.

“Even though maybe Roger didn't have the year as successful as he had in last five, six years, I still think he's playing really well,” he said. “He's, I'm sure, very much motivated to come back to the No. 1 of the world. From all of us, he knows the best how it is to win the major events because he's the record holder. He has 16 Grand Slams, has a fantastic career, and so I'm sure he wants to come back there.”

Of the goals Federer might have left to achieve, climbing back to No. 1 in the world and breaking another of Sampras’ records appears most unlikely to happen, with Djokovic leading him by almost 5600 points in the rankings and Nadal ahead of him for No. 2 by over 3000 points.

He is still, however, climbing up the Grand Slam record books simply with every match he wins. With his win over Sela, he now has 225 Grand Slam wins in his career, which is second most in the Open Era. He moved past Andre Agassi on the list and now is just trailing Jimmy Connors’ record of 233, which barring injury, he surely should pass next year.

In terms of inspirations for players succeeding in their 30s, Federer need not look much further than Agassi or Connors.

A 24-year-old Federer defeated a 35-year-old Agassi in the final to win his second US Open title back in 2005. Agassi was also the last man over 30 to win a Grand Slam singles title, when he won his final major championship at the 2003 Australian Open just a few months shy of turning 33.

Connors won two Grand Slams the year he turned 30 in 1982 and won his final major at age 31 at the 1983 US Open. He was still playing in his late 30s, including an improbable run to the US Open semifinals at 39 in 1991.

“I played him here in 2005. I think he was 35, so I was like, ‘Wow, that was his 20th US Open, I think, in a row.’ I've got a ways to go,” Federer said of Agassi. “This is my 13th time here, 12th time maybe in the main draw, so it's definitely an inspiration seeing guys being around for a long time, like Ken Rosewall, Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, and then there are tons of other players who were there for a long time.”

Federer sees himself falling into that category one day, as he has battled mononucleosis and back problems during his career but has avoided any major injury and has never missed significant playing time.

Unlike one of his rivals, Nadal, who plays a grinding style of tennis that puts a lot of pressure on his troublesome knees, Federer thinks his style, which appears graceful and almost effortless at times, is one factor that will allow him to play for years to come and, at this point, knows when he needs to be smart about resting and taking care of himself. His big serve will continue to serve him well as he gets older, as well, helping him earn free points and avoid long rallies as he ages to go with his legendary forehand.

And as of now, he plans to keep doing what he is doing with no end in sight.

“I feel my game allows me to still play for many more years because I have a relaxing playing style. I have almost played a thousand matches on tour, and that leaves its toll, but I'm very professional when it comes to massages, stretching, diet, sleep, all of that stuff,” Federer said.

“I have always looked in the long term, as well, for a long time,” he added. “I have never been chasing stuff around since I turned world No. 1 seven years ago. That's why I'm confident I can still play for many more years to come at the highest of levels.”

This Labour Day clash will start at 21:05 (GMT +8 hours).. A critical and most important game for The Red Devils if they want to take a big step into winning a record breaking 19 times Premiership Title.

Realistically only pride is at stake for an Arsenal side who have slipped out of the Premier League title race in recent weeks, but the chance to upset rivals Manchester United and halt their march to the trophy is still an attractive proposition.

When the fixture computer brought United and Arsenal together, just before the Red Devils face Chelsea, many thought that the game would have a significant impact on where the title would be heading. However, with United needing just six points (and a boost to their goal difference) even if Chelsea manage to take maximum points from their remaining fixtures, a draw is all the Red Devils need from Emirates Stadium to virtually assure themselves top spot.

United play relegation-threatened Blackburn and Blackpool in their final two fixtures but, while the title is beyond their reach, Arsenal are still facing a battle to finish in third place. With Manchester City only five points behind them (with a game in hand) and tough trips to Stoke and Fulham to come, a place in the automatic Champions League slots is far from assured.

The main problem for Arsene Wenger is that Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have the beating of him. While the contests between the two were fairly even back in the early years, Ferguson has taught his players how to beat the Gunners and has picked up six wins in seven games by getting his men behind the ball and hitting the opposition hard on the counter-attack.

It is a tactic that has served Ferguson well against the Gunners and the 2-0 win in the FA Cup earlier this season, where United played with seven defenders on the pitch, ensured that the club struck another mental blow to Wenger's philosophy, as well as a physical one.

United have the luxury of resting some star players again with a Champions League semi-final against Schalke coming up. Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Antonio Valencia are all in line for a bench role, with Chris Smalling, Rafael and Park Ji-Sung ready to plug the gaps.

Arsenal will welcome back long-term absentee Thomas Vermaelen for a reserve clash on Thursday, but the United game should come too soon for him; otherwise, it's full strength for the Gunners and there are no excuses to hide behind if the performance level is not there. With the end of a sixth trophyless season on the horizon, calls for Wenger's head have been heard with more regularity among the more reactive fans at Emirates Stadium, but if anything highlights the Frenchman's failure to take his young side forward, it is his record against United.

Arsenal player to watch: Johan Djourou. Despite Arsenal's failures of late, Djourou can consider the season a personal success as he has managed to complete a campaign without major injury. The Swiss defender will equal his highest number of starts for the Gunners in a single season (18) on Sunday, but came under fire in the 2-1 defeat to Bolton for his lack of leadership and aerial presence at the back. At 24, he is something of a Gunners veteran having made his debut for the first XI in 2006, but has work to do to convince fans that Arsenal do not need to spend.

Manchester United player to watch: Nani. Having been dropped for the hard-working Park Ji-Sung for the Champions League game with Schalke, the Portuguese midfielder will be ready to help his side's title charge at Emirates Stadium. Unlucky to have been left off the PFA Player of the Year shortlist, Nani has incredible pace and skill on the ball and is a constant threat down the flanks. His freedom of expression sometimes gets the best of him though and Arsenal fans will not forget his taunting of them in their 3-0 defeat in the FA Cup in early 2008.

Key Battle: Cesc Fabregas v Anderson. Fabregas has not been in the greatest form since his back-heel aided Barcelona's cause in their Champions League clash and the Arsenal captain needs a good performance to prove his commitment to the club. Rumours continue to circle about a possible £40 million summer move to Barcelona and if Fabregas' focus and vision return then the Gunners will be a threat. Battling with him in the middle of the park will be Brazilian Anderson, who was the subject of amorous glances from Wenger while plying his trade at FC Porto. His incisive passing was at its best against Everton and the midfielder's energy and drive from box to box will make him a tough opponent.

Trivia: Since 1992, United have done the double over Arsenal three times: In 1996-97 it was 1-0 and 1-2, while in 2004-05 United won 2-0 and 2-4. Last year, it was 2-1 and 1-3.

Stats: Since Arsenal beat Manchester United on penalties in the final of the FA Cup in 2005, they have won just three of their 15 games against them. United have won six out of their last seven games against the Gunners.

Odds: Arsenal (2.62), Man Utd (2.75) and the draw (3.25) are on offer at bet365 and Wayne Rooney to score first in a 1-0 win for United comes in at 26.00.

Prediction: United will charge in winning their 19th League title. 3-1 win for United.

Champions League Epic Continues : Manchester United vs Chelsea (Part2)

Carlo Ancelotti has spent many a European press conference this season denying that Chelsea are "obsessed" with winning the Champions League. But should he fail to mastermind the Blues' passage to the semi-finals, he will surely discover the true extent of Roman Abramovich's fixation and could very well feel the sharp edge of the Russian's axe, less than 12 months after delivering a Premier League and FA Cup double.

The Champions League is the only major trophy to have eluded Abramovich since he began ploughing his billions into the club eight years ago and Ancelotti - who won the trophy twice with AC Milan - was hired specifically for his continental pedigree. However, last week's 1-0 home defeat to Manchester United has left the Italian on the brink of the sack and the Blues on the verge of a fourth knockout defeat at the hands of an English club in six years. Semi-final exits to Liverpool in 2005 and 2007 were followed by Moscow heartbreak against United in 2008 and Sir Alex Ferguson's side now threaten Chelsea's European ambitions once more.

In order to progress, the Blues must achieve something that only Ajax and Inter Milan have managed in Champions League history: overturn a first-leg home defeat. Both of those sides were in the same position as Chelsea - losing 1-0 in the first encounter - with Ajax beating Panathanaikos 3-0 to advance to the 1996 final and Inter beating Bayern Munich to reach this season's quarters. But the Blues have an uphill task as United have only lost seven out of 81 home matches in the Champions League and are unbeaten at Old Trafford in all competitions this season.

Ferguson has a near fully-fit squad to choose from and his side have now won six on the bounce after back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Liverpool in early March. Wayne Rooney will be fresh from his enforced absence against Fulham, and United will be looking for him to produce the sort of all-action display that made him the most influential player on the park at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday. Ancelotti will likely turn to Fernando Torres once more as the £50 million striker aims to break his increasingly embarrassing 648-minute goal drought on the ground where he made a fool of Nemanja Vidic in Liverpool's 4-1 victory in 2009.

The reigning Premier League champions won 2-1 at Old Trafford on their way to last season's title and Chelsea fans will be praying for a repeat scoreline, which would see the Blues advance on away goals. A draw or United win would see the home side progress while a 1-0 Chelsea victory would see extra-time and potentially penalties, where John Terry's nerves, in particular, would be tested to the full.

Manchester United player to watch: Edwin van der Sar. Criminally overlooked among the nominees for this season's PFA Player of the Year Award, Van der Sar continues to produce performances younger goalkeepers could only dream of. He was on form in the first leg at Stamford Bridge, and more of the same will be required if United are to preserve their advantage back at Old Trafford.

Chelsea player to watch: Michael Essien. If Chelsea are going to have any hope of getting back into this tie then the driving force of Essien in the centre of the park will be required. Given he has scored nine goals and claimed 13 assists in the Premier League this season, the United star could be forgiven for feeling aggrieved at failing to make the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award. Trivia: Strangely enough, Manchester United have a superior record to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They have won 31 times in West London, compared to 23 for Chelsea. There have been 19 draws.

I am having fever for the past few months. Yeah! It's badminton fever LOL! Playing badminton at least once a week, sometimes 3 times a week. Whoah! Badminton till like never before. Haha.. What a healthy life. May be because of our Malaysian's world number 1, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, which drive me to be so active in this sport.

However, I were wondering how long this fever will last? No matter how long it lasted, at the moment, I am enjoying very much of it. The excitement of the game were great. Sweating around on the court to keep us on the move to win every point and shots. Dear all, have a try on this exciting sport, probably you may find interest in it.

Hi guys, I just finish my lunch today and I know that I haven't been posting in my blog for quite some time. So now, I am back with this posting. Haha.. Actually, I am having out of idea to post things in my blog. But somehow, I need to post something also. Therefore, I've came out with this post. Hehe..

Today, I am working at Alliance Bank, Jalan Raja Chulan (JRC) branch. Alliance Bank is one of my company's client and I am coming here as a vendor for Alliance Bank. I am just to stand by here in case of any issue happen. Actually, there are nothing much to do here as I just sitting down here doing some online stuff and chatting with some of the staff in Alliance Bank. hehe.. What a free job!

Coming here is just the time to relax but it's in the middle of a city where it's a busy place. People are rushing everywhere, But I am taking my time here having a relaxing day. Haha.. But somehow, day goes by quickly and by 5:45pm I'll be leaving JRC and my job is done. Yeay!!! Tomorrow is my off day!!! ;-)

Today is 21st September 2009, the second day of Raya, for the past couple days, I have been blog walking around, visiting blogs in Blogger United and this makes my blog become popular.

1) First, I become 'Blogger Of The Day'. I have becoming it for 4 straight days (including today).

Wah!!! It's a dying weather here in Kuala Lumpur, especially at the area where I'm staying. Of course, my August's mood is not weather lol! Hahaha... But I still need to blog about it cause I can't stand with it.

What I've came across here is that we are dealing with; Today's hot the next day's cold, today sun shining brightness the next day rain pouring darkness, today you can be naked the next day you'll be wearing lots of clothes, today you on the aircond the next day you not even have to spin the fan, today drinks "teh o ais limau" the next day drinks "teh o panas", today photo shooting on sunrises and sunsets the next day shooting on water balls pouring from sky and blah blah blah... What the hell? What an un-stable weather we're having here? We are living in a hell weather lol! The alternate hot weather makes us sick!

As I've blog before, I wish to have moderate weather. Hahaha... Is this called as moderate weather? Hmm... Again, I can say GLOBAL WARMING lol!!! It's killing us slowly, day by day and night by night... Sigh.............................

August Is A Soccer Mood

As usual for every year, my mood would comes automatically as a soccer fan. I can't wait for the soccer season to start, especially for Barclay Premier League. As a fan of Manchester United, I really hope that they can able to defend their BPL title. This season will be a tougher season for Manchester United, as they had sold Cristiano Ronaldo, and with the spending spree from other clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City, the challenge will be greater.

The whole new season of soccer will be starting on 9th August 2009 with FA Community Shield where Manchester United will play Chelsea. It's just a warm up match for the up coming premier league matches which will be played on a week later. With fantasy soccer sites which I had joined, it would be very exciting and impatient to wait for the season to start. If you are not a soccer fan, then the craziness and the excitement of me were un-imaginable.

Let me explain what and why soccer is so exciting and good about. One of the best thing in soccer is that soccer is part of a sport and exercise which give us healthiness. Besides, Soccer is about passion, soccer players never give up easily, soccer fans keep supporting their team to glory. Soccer is about team work as well, each and every soccer player work their way out to help their team for glory. Soccer is about friendship, we make friends from matches without matters of who are the winners. On 18th July 2009 (Saturday), it's match day where Malaysia XI will play Manchester United. Another great scenary of soccer where Malaysian fans of Manchester United came to support their favorite team. A credit to the Malaysia XI team where they manage to score two goals against the best team. 24th May to 7 June 2009 is a clay period for tennis at Roland Garros, Paris, France. A great summer season for tennis has began with all the top tennis stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Dinara Safina, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and etc.

Roland Garros, The 2009 French Open is one of the special Grand Slam tournament in the calendar year of tennis. The special clay surface makes it difficult to conquer. Player has to be tough enough to get through all their matches in order to conquer the surface, as it is an energetic and stamina prone surface. The passion of each and every players are remarkable. The great applaud from spectators have make the tennis environment happening.

Aircond! Aircond! Aircond! The three shouts show that how frustrated am I with the hot weather in Malaysia currently. I am wondering is that other countries' weather same too? It's so annoying with the weather now which could cause collapse to some people. So I require a good air condition at home, car, office and it's better to be every where!

However, we wouldn't like rainy day with thunder storm as well. Could it be moderate weather? I'm sure each and every people in this world would dream so. Come on people! Wake up! Wake up from your dream! It's global warming lol! The weather is killing all of us slowly. Pollutions from wastage, smoke, dust and etc. that made such a weather.

Therefore, we, as a survival on this planet should do whatever possible and work together to save us from such killer! Go people go! Save me to save yourselves!

The Day I Came To This World

29th April 1980 is the day I came to this world. The date is coincidently same as my age 29 this year (Wednesday, 29th April 2009). I'm trying to plan for my birthday celebration to be as special as I can, but somehow, idea doesn't came in to my mind. Every year is the same, the older you get the more ordinary you'll have. Every year we have birthday, so there were nothing much to be excited at. Though, I have taken my Annual Leave on that day. Even there are no celebration on that day, it would be my rest day as a self pamper for the hardwork I have after one year of working. Surprise may came in on that day itself but I'm not expecting too much on it cause it's a week day where everybody are working. Therefore, just have a quiet and pleasure birthday. Here I wish myself a happy early birthday!

Laughing哥 : A Great Character in Emegency Unit TV Series (E.U.)

Laughing哥 is one of the character in Emegency Unit TV Series. It is act by an actor name called Tse Tin Wah. The chinese word 哥 means brother, which means Laughing哥 is one of the gang leaders in a gangster group called Chun Hing in Hong Kong. Laughing哥 is just a nick name of the character. The actual name is called Leong Siu Tong.

Laughing哥 character plays the part as an under cover police which he sneak into the Chun Hing group as one of the gang leader to capture drug smuggling business that runs by Chun Hing Group Main Leader Gong Sai Hau (played by Miu Kiu Wai). However, the character died in episod 23rd of 30th as his under cover police identity has been discovered.

I, as an audience for this TV Series, feel that it's a bit wasted as Laughing哥 is a great character acted by a great actor (Tse Tin Wah) with outstanding acting should stay till the end of the series. The outstanding acting which have convinced us (as audience) to continue to miss this Laughing哥 character as we feel that this TV series are not so exciting without him.

It's a great car which I don't think it will sell in Malaysia. However, I was wondering would it be sold in other countries like Japan and Europe? Hmmm..?

Spend Wisely, But Don't Afraid to Spend

In these global economic crisis, peoples are precauticively saving their money as there are many losing jobs, pay cuts and shutting down their business. As spending are less, it would make the economy even worse as there no money flow around. Recession starts as peoples are afraid to spend.

Therefore, to my advice and opinion here, people must spend it wisely but do not afraid to spend. Spend on what you required only, budget and plan your expenditure, credited expenditure are not advisable and cut down all un-neccessary expenses.

For example, if you need a car for you ease on your travel, budget and plan it where if your current income and expenditure are affordable, why not spend it? As in such an economic crisis, most of the people will think not to buy it, it's better to keep the money in the bank for precaution in future. In such an thinkings would worsened the economy. When you are not spending, then others will not getting sales. When there are not getting sales, then there will be no income. When there are no income, they will afraid to spend. It's a circle of life.

So people, please spend to boost up the economy!

The par-72 18-hole championship golf course consists of the Palma and Rimba Nines. Being a resort course, it is designed to allow golfers to play a relaxing game. But rest assured it is difficult, challenging and the monsoon season plays havoc with the club selection and your score cards. Even professionals found the going difficult on this golf course, especially on the Rimba Nine. The 15th 480 yards par 4 is particularly a jinx hole for pros. Professionals found that after playing well on 14 holes, they fumbled very badly on the 15th dropping 8-10 strokes.

Another interesting hole is the par 3 181 yards 4th which requires a full water carry to the green. A one wood should get you on the green safely. If short you land in the pond, overclubbing will land the ball into OB. The hole is a popular hole-in-one during tournaments.

The par 3 150 yards 14th is not difficult by any measure but it's certainly one of the most scenic holes. The green is set out on the beach surrounded by the longest beach bunker in the country, which during the monsoon becomes a water hazard. Most Miley Cyrus fans would die for a chance to meet the “Hannah Montana” star – but when your dad has just been elected President of the United States, you have a little extra pull.

In an interview with Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell, Billy Ray Cyrus said “Hannah” might get a visit from future first daughters Malia and Sasha Obama.

“They probably will. The invitation is there,” Miley’s dad told Nancy of a possible visit by the Obama daughters. “The ‘Hannah Montana’ film comes out in April. Maybe something might happen around then. Maybe not. I don’t know… I have got to keep a secret.”

When Nancy followed up with Miley, on the set of her new music video for “Fly On The Wall,” the Disney star said she didn’t know if the offer had been extended yet to the White House’s new resident “Hannah Montana” fans.

“I think that would be really cool and if anything, have them visit the set,” Miley noted. ”They could see what we do and we could hear about what they do.”

But what kind of storyline does Miley envision for the girls if they do appear on her show?

“They are kind of like me before I started my own career. You are kind of put in it because their dad and because of my dad… so I would want it to be normal and they could come hang out on the set with normal girls. I think that would be fun for them,” she explained.

And as Malia and Sasha get ready for a life in a much larger spotlight, Miley offered some advice on how to handle the attention when one of your parents is a superstar in their own right.

“I think, more than anything, it would be to find your own identity,” Miley continued. “Something that makes you stand out where you can be like, ‘This is Miley and she does this.’ I think that is a cool way to be if you can have your identity away from your parents, away from a friend or brother or sister.”
